Victorian Wedding Dress: Let Yourself Be a Queen

Victorian Wedding Dress History

If you cannot stand the cheap stuff, your manners are honed to perfection, and you dream of the true luxury, then Victorian style wedding is an ideal choice. This is an elite ceremony considered to the last detail despite the scale of the royal celebration. So, if you can afford such a luxury, you should start preparing for the wedding in Victorian style with the choice of a Victorian wedding dress. Thus, Victorian wedding suggests wearing just a white wedding dress. Let’s find out why.

Long ago, in the XVII-XVIIIth centuries, the brides wore their most expensive dresses of any color on their wedding days. However, when in the XIXth century it was a turn of Victoria, Queen of the United Kingdom, to marry, the whole world found out that she had her own wedding ideas. Thus, Queen Victoria ordered the white wedding dress because it was the color of her favorite lace. It was Queen Victoria who became a trendsetter with her white bridal gown. Copying Victoria, all brides began to wear white wedding dresses. This color was associated with luxury and helped to emphasize the bride’s wealth. That is because only very wealthy people could afford white clothing which gets dirty in the twinkle of an eye.

How Victorian Wedding Dress Should Look Like

The Victorian era ended more than a hundred years ago. Victorian Wedding DressHowever, its luxurious style, refined femininity, and elegant fashion still excite the hearts of many girls. Of course, in everyday life, Victorian style may not always be appropriate. However, on the wedding day, it is quite possible to make it very suitable. So, a Victorian wedding dress will be a real catch for a themed wedding.

On a special day, the supporters of traditions cannot deny themselves the pleasure to create a bridal look in their favorite style. The classic Victorian bridal gown is perfect for brides who have hourglass body shape. Dress features a tight-fitting bodice. The other unchanged features of a Victorian dress include lace trimming and drapery, especially in the bodice area, as well as all sorts of ruffles, frills, and flounces and a long train. Do not forget about other key issues inherent in the Victorian style: lace gloves, petticoats, and puffed sleeves.

Modern Variations of Victorian Wedding Dress

It is also worth paying attention to the modern variations of the Victorian wedding dress. This may be a floor-length straight wedding dress with light flowing skirts. Victorian femininity is restrained and refined. Therefore, high-neck lace straight wedding dress with three-quarter sleeves will be an ideal option.

A Victorian bridal gown with a lace tiered skirt will look no less impressive than a previous dress model. A boat neck straight dress with big fabric flowers used as decoration creates a special mood of vintage romanticism. Also, Victorian style accessories will excellently complement a bridal look.

Sizing Guide

Dresses standard length is 120 cm /48 inch/ from the waistline to the floor.

We always recommend having a professional take all of your measurements. For the most accurate measurements, don’t measure over your clothing. Your dress size measurements should be taken while wearing undergarments similar to the ones you will wear with your dress. The measuring tape shouldn’t be pulled too tight or have too much slack, and should always be parallel to the floor.

Bust: Place the measuring tape across your nipples and measure around the largest part of your chest. Be sure to keep the tape parallel to the floor
Waist: Place the measuring tape about a 1/2 inch above your bellybutton (at the narrowest part of your waist) to measure around your torso. When measuring your waist, exhale and measure before inhaling again.
Hips: Place the measuring tape across the widest part of your hips/buttocks and measure all the way around while keeping the tape parallel to the floor.

All dresses on our website can be custom made to exact measurements if you provide us with your custom sizes. If you decide to order standard size, you may use the following charts to map your measurements to the closest size to be ordered. If your measurements indicate one size for the “bust” and a different size for the “waist and/or hips”, we suggest ordering according to the largest measurement. Dresses can easily be taken in by a skilled tailor or professional seamstress.
